Trať off the rails #3 w/ Gary Gwadera (PL), zlobhoBobo, Krabs

Trať is a traveling festival that annually revives abandoned railway spaces across the Czech Republic through music, theater, and visual arts. In 2025, the Trať organizational team is taking a year off from organizing the large summer festival and shifting its focus to hosting a series of music nights in various cities. The event Trať off the rails is the third derailment of the festival into the space of Divadlo 29.

This curated evening will be devoted primarily to club dance music and will focus on Central European interpretations and experiments with the footwork genre, which has limited representation on the local club scene. Footwork is a dance music genre pioneered by the African American community of DJs and music producers in Chicago in the late 1990s. It is characterized by high tempo, pulsating basslines, fast syncopated rhythms, and the use of distorted vocal samples taken from pop music or hip hop. Footwork is closely linked with the dance style of the same name, which features extremely fast and seemingly chaotic footwork. In addition to two performances directly inspired by footwork, the event will feature zlobhoBobo, a new discovery from the experimental electronic scene in Brno, presenting his new EP.

Gary Gwadera is the solo project of Piotr Gwadera, one of the most prominent drummers of the Łódź experimental music scene. Known in the Polish scene for his rock, punk, experimental, jazz, and free improvisation projects, Gwadera will present his 2024 album Far, far in Chicago. Footberk Suite (Pointless Geometry) at Trať off the rails. The album takes the listener on a journey through time and space, where Polish oberek (a traditional dance similar to the mazurka) meets Chicago footwork through dynamic triple rhythms. Gwadera was primarily inspired by the formative footwork compilation Bangs & Works, in which he found strong similarities between the triple syncopated rhythms based on the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine and the rhythms of Polish folk dances. The aim of the recording is to demonstrate that mazurka (or oberek) rhythms can sound as contemporary and bold as the beats created for Chicago dancers. The album pays tribute to the dance spirit of both cultures and their sense of community. To connect these seemingly distant worlds, Gwadera uses a specially designed "rhythm machine," at the heart of which is rural dżaz (a simple folk drum set) with built-in electronic pads full of samples from Roland TR-808 and TR-909.

zlobhoBobo is a music producer focusing on experimental soundscapes. His compositions address his complex cultural background and the weight of the contemporary world on Generation Z. These introspections materialize in songs characterized by collage-like and often austere forms. His debut EP Kushed Terrains, which blends enchanting disharmonic melodies, fragile synthetic textures, atypical and at times naïve deconstructed rhythmic elements, heavily processed vocals, and a notable influence of British bass music, was released in early January under the Brno-based label Fungus.

Krabs, a Brno-based modular synth wizard, DJ, music producer, dancer, and overall Renaissance figure in the Czech alternative club scene, will prepare a special live set for the Pardubice event, using modular synthesizers, a sampler, and drum machines, inspired by Chicago footwork and juke.

The event is organized by Divadlo 29 and the Trať festival as part of the Electroconnexion 2025 project, financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Pardubice Region, and the statutory city of Pardubice.
