Opening of the exhibition III: Bodies of Dust

We cordially invite you to the opening program of the exhibition III: Bodies of Dust.

The metaphor of the human body as dust, clay, or sand, with all its biblical connotations, is as ancient as our cultural consciousness. Nevertheless, it appears that this physical sense of belonging together with all matter on Earth must be updated. The exhibition presents works by contemporary Czech and international artists who, through the language of today, reflect on the human body—its fluidity and vulnerability—in relation to natural processes and all matter. The gallery space, built from concrete and bricks, will transform into a single earthen body within the unique site-specific architecture of the exhibition. Just as the spine runs through our bodies, a central axis will pass through the gallery’s body, forming together with the artistic artifacts one continuous entity.

15:00–18:00 Creative workshop: Sand Landscapes

Just as desert winds move sand creating sand dunes landscapes, so we will try to create small sand landscapes – one that can fit in our pocket. All we need are small bottles and a little amount of sand. We will take our inspiration from sand paintings in bottles that are often brought back as a souvenir from travels to the desert landscapes. Don’t worry, you won’t need to go on a long journey. You’ll take home your own unique souvenir as a memento of the exhibition Bodies of Dust.

18:00 Guided tour of the exhibition

Guided tour of the exhibition with the curator and exhibiting artists.

18:30 OddenkyLive / Manka Lustigová & sorbitol drops / Porcelain Sound System Experience

The Oddenky project, by visual artist Manka Lustigová and musician sorbitol drops explores the phenomenon of resonance in ceramic material. During the exhibition opening they will present a unique sound system consisting of 16 porcelain plates of different shapes and sizes, each with a specific tuning. In the sound performance OddenkyLive, the artists will test the boundaries of resonance in ceramic objects. Silence, pauses varying in lengths and volume dynamics will become significant sonic elements. The performance will feature sound compositions that sifts between soothing ambient drones, shimmering bell-like percussion, and high-frequency tones.

20:00 at Divadlo 29 | Jessica Pavone · Spinifex Maxximus / concert

The music program will continue at Divadlo 29 with a concert by Spinifex Maxximus in an expanded lineup featuring a string section. Before the band, Jessica Pavone a pivotal figure in the contemporary New York scene, will perform solo.

As part of the opening of the exhibition III: Bodies of Dust at GAMPA, the project Oddenky will be presented—a unique porcelain sound system created by visual artist Manka Lustigová and musician sorbitol drops.

The Oddenky/Rrhizzzomess project explores the phenomenon of resonance in ceramic materials. It consists of 16 porcelain plates of various shapes and sizes, forming an instrument with a specific tuning where the plates function as speakers. The installation invites visitors to explore reality through hearing, reflecting on the fragility of social structures, the similarities and differences between individuals, and the boundaries of personal expression and collective coexistence. The performance moves between soothing ambient drones, shimmering percussive chimes, and high-frequency sounds that test the limits of resonance. The key elements are silence, pauses of varying lengths, and the dynamics of volume.

Manka Lustigová studied ceramic design at the University of West Bohemia. Her practice delves into acoustics, spatial installations, and material research. She enjoys building musical instruments and engaging in DIY projects.

sorbitol drops is an experimental music producer and visual artist based in Prague. In addition to music production, he creates multimedia installations that typically combine video and sound. His debut album Remízek Music was released in 2024 on the Gin&Platonic label.
