OFFCITY Architects: Jakub Cigler

As part of this year’s OFFCITY ARCHITEKTI lecture and discussion series, we introduced the first of four members of the advisory board to the City Council, a body tasked with supporting key decisions regarding the architectural and urban development of our city. The second guest from this expert group is architect Jakub Cigler. What is his connection to Pardubice? And what are his visions?

After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), Jakub Cigler spent some time working in London. Since 2001, he has been leading the Prague-based architectural firm Jakub Cigler Architekti (JCA). As stated on the firm’s website, JCA managed to establish itself as one of the leading Czech studios focused on progressive architecture shortly after its foundation. Their completed projects and proposals have been successful in numerous architectural competitions and are regularly featured in professional journals. JCA has received multiple awards both domestically and internationally (e.g., the Dušan Jurkovič Award granted by the Association of Slovak Architects, repeated wins of the International Design Awards, and the Best Office Development award). The studio is also one of the founding members of the Czech Green Building Council.
