Pavel Pawluscha Novotný: Proč Alláh stvořil kalašnikov (Why Allah Created the Kalashnikov)
Journalist, reporter, and traveler Pavel Pawluscha Novotný presents his book about his travels through Muslim countries.
Why did Allah create the Kalashnikov? When do the Taliban laugh? Where is Jesus returning to? Pavel Novotný, known as Pawluscha, has been traveling as a journalist to the Middle East and Asia for years. In Egypt, he witnessed the beginning of the Arab Spring, visited an Islamic school in the suburbs of Peshawar, Pakistan, where, according to legend, the founder of the Taliban studied, rode in an armored vehicle with Western soldiers in Afghanistan, and watched Indian soap operas with a proudly boastful rural cleric. Additionally, he loitered in a Muslim Brotherhood camp in Cairo and conducted an interview with a spokesman for Hamas in a secret location in Gaza, where he heard what he already knew. Pavel Novotný emphasizes that many people have distorted views of the Islamic world and strives to show that even in these countries, people have similar interests and values as anywhere else. During the so-called refugee crisis, he realized how little people know about daily life in Muslim countries, which motivated him to write the book Proč Alláh stvořil kalašnikov (Argo, 2023).
Pavel "Pawluscha" Novotný (*1969) is a Czech journalist, reporter, and traveler, known for his reports from war zones and the Middle East. He studied macroeconomics and religious studies. He witnessed the final phase of the Balkan wars and later had the opportunity to visit dozens of countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. During his career, he worked for several Czech media outlets, most notably Lidové noviny and MF Dnes. Along with Pavlína Wolfová, he co-founded the podcast Padouch, nebo hrdina?
